JUNIOR ELITE

The Junior Elite squad is the first stage of the club’s elite performance pathway, supporting swimmers as they transition from the Junior Performance squads into a more demanding training and competition environment.

Swimmers in this squad are expected to demonstrate excellent technical ability across all strokes, strong training habits and a clear commitment to improving their performance. Training sessions focus on refining stroke efficiency, developing endurance and building the skills required to train consistently at higher intensity and volume.

A strong training ethos is central to the squad. Swimmers are encouraged to demonstrate focus, discipline and a positive attitude in every session while continuing to develop their racing skills. Regular participation in competitions is expected, with swimmers working towards county, regional and national qualifying standards where appropriate.

The Junior Elite squad prepares swimmers for progression into the club’s Elite Performance squad as their ability, commitment and competitive results continue to develop.

Racing Abilities

  • In any competitive sport the ability to race is extremely important; swimming is no different.

  • As each swimmer goes through the programme, racing requirements will become more advanced from showing an enjoyment of racing to performing at National level.

Discipline

  • Every swimmer’s behaviour will be taken into consideration as part of the squad selection process.

Training Basics

  • After the prep phase at the start of each swimming year, swimmers will be expected to be able to hold form in repetition of 100, 200, 400 and 800 or 1500 front crawl.

  • Band work will be an essential part of pre-pool training.

  • Training is intense so injury prevention exercises must be carried out every day.
